Summary: In semiconductor manufacturing, light has to be focused precisely onto the masks used to produce transistors – which depends on perfectly calibrated lenses. MADIS develops software that processes measurement data, applies a collection of formulas developed by physicists and mathematicians, and calculates the recipe for adjusting each lens, visualizing the results for engineers.
The client
A Semiconductor Manufacturer, which develops optical systems used during manufacturing.
The challenge
The lenses inside these optical systems must be set precisely so that light is focused exactly onto the masks used to manufacture transistors. Each optical system contains around half a dozen lenses, and each of them has to be calibrated.
The calibration relies on machine-generated measurement data and on a collection of formulas developed by physicists and mathematicians. Engineers need software that turns this data into clear, reliable decisions – and that can adapt to different manufacturing processes.
Our approach
Processing measurement data
The software processes and evaluates machine-generated measurement data to optimize the positioning and calibration of the lenses within the objectives.
Calculating the calibration recipe
Applying the formula collection, the software calculates the recipe needed for the adjustments and suggests further modifications. Key performance indicators are derived and visualized to support data-driven decisions on hardware control and lens calibration.
A model-driven user interface
We designed and implemented a model-driven user interface that engineers and scientists can tailor to specific manufacturing processes at runtime.
The solution
The result is a specialized software that supports the calibration of the lenses in each optical system – whether a lens needs grinding, re-coating or simply repositioning – and visualizes the results for the engineers who make the decisions.
Technologies: .NET · Angular · Docker · Kubernetes
Results
- Precise adjustment: lenses can be set precisely, whether through grinding, re-coating or repositioning.
- Higher manufacturing precision: better-calibrated optics contribute to more accurate production.
- Lower cost, easier extension: the runtime-configurable interface significantly reduces cost and makes the software extensible.
