Summary: A mobile telecommunications operator in Hungary needed experienced project leadership for a series of complex, high-visibility initiatives. Working as an external project manager, MADIS’s expert led the transformation of the retail store network, managed price change and regulatory projects, supported the reorganisation of the project management department and helped business and IT teams work together on a large international IT programme.
The client
The client is a mobile telecommunications operator in Hungary with a nationwide retail store network and a large residential and business customer base.
The challenge
The operator was running several demanding initiatives at the same time, many of them with direct impact on customers, regulators and the media. They required someone who could coordinate many teams, prepare decisions for senior management and keep projects on track when plans changed.
- Many stakeholders: customer areas, sales, content development, IT, suppliers and senior management.
- Regulatory pressure: legal changes and price changes required careful communication with customers and authorities.
- Unexpected events: public reactions and media interest had to be handled quickly.
Our approach
Store network transformation
Interim management of the transformation project: coordinating customer areas, content development, sales and store teams, preparing steering committee meetings, delivering the second phase according to plan, preparing the third phase and supervising supplier selection.
Price changes and regulation
Managing retail and residential price change projects, including customer and authority communication and decision preparation; supporting extraordinary regulatory procedures and the handling of an unexpected customer rush and media interest; assessing and implementing the process and IT changes required by a multi-stage change in communications law.
New in-store processes
Introducing online checkout in the stores through continuous re-planning: establishing the regulatory background, selecting suppliers, transforming business processes and ending the relationship with the previous supplier.
Organisation and IT programme
Supporting the reorganisation of the project management department with problem-solving workshops and structure proposals, and reshaping cooperation between business managers and IT experts – across teams in two countries – during the high-level planning of a large IT programme.
The solution
The engagement provided the operator with flexible, senior project management capacity: one experienced manager who could take over complex projects, bring the right teams together, prepare decisions for senior management and steer delivery to completion.
Technologies: Project and programme management · Steering committee management · Supplier selection · Change management
Results
- Plans delivered: the second phase of the store transformation was implemented according to plan, and the third phase prepared.
- Smooth customer-facing changes: price change and regulatory projects were managed with coordinated customer and authority communication.
- Stronger collaboration: business and IT teams worked together more effectively in the planning of the IT programme.
